Crossing Guard
The City of Zephyrhills has two elementary schools, West Zephyrhills Elementary and Woodland Elementary. The School Crossing Guard Program is voluntary but vitally important to the safety of students. Crossing guards stop traffic in school crossing zones to allow safe passage during morning arrival and afternoon departure.
The requirements/qualifications for school crossing guards are as follows:
- Good physical condition, including sight, hearing, ability to move and maneuver quickly to avoid danger from errant vehicles;
- Ability to communicate specific instructions clearly, firmly, and courteously;
- Ability to recognize potentially dangerous traffic situations and warn and manage students in sufficient time to avoid injury;
- Mental alertness;
- Neat appearance;
- Good character;
- Dependability; and
- An overall sense of responsibility for the safety of the students
Morning shift begins at 9:15am and ends at 10:15am. Evening Shift begins at 3:30pm and ends at 4:30pm. Crossing Guards are required to stand for the duration of their shift at their assigned location. A prospective crossing guard will have to pass a criminal background check.
